The structure of the New Jersey Judiciary includes:

Job Description
This is an intern position with the New Jersey Judiciary, offering an opportunity to contribute to meaningful work that impacts the public.
Compensation & Hours:
• The hourly rate for this position is $20.00.
• The position is limited to a maximum of 35 hours per week, not to exceed 944 hours in a fiscal year.
• Interns are required to work a minimum of 10 hours per week.
Commitment:
• A 4-month commitment is required, with an opportunity to extend if eligible.
• Some divisions may prefer a commitment longer than 4 months.
• The Judiciary offers a strong opportunity for growth.
Example of Duties:
Interns will perform a variety of tasks crucial to daily operations and special projects, including:
• Answering phones, returning phone calls, and receiving and distributing voicemails.
• Contacting and following up with applicants and/or members of the public.
• Performing special projects and conducting research and analysis.
• Performing computer-related work, including collecting and entering data.
• Providing customer service.
• Drafting correspondences and memos.
• Attending community planning meetings.
• Organizing and scanning of paper files, then uploading them into an electronic filing system.
• Assisting staff and performing other duties as directed.
Work Environment:
• Regular and predictable physical presence at the worksite is an essential function of this position.
• Interns are not eligible for remote work.
Qualifications:
• Applicants must have thirty credit hours from an accredited college or university pursuing a degree.
• For internships in the Criminal Pre-Trial Services or Probation divisions, applicants must have thirty credit hours from an accredited college pursuing a degree or certificate in the Behavioral or Social Sciences, or a related field.
• Unofficial College or University transcript must be included in your application in order to be considered.
Supplemental Information:
• Physical Ability: For some positions, candidates must be able to perform work requiring climbing, prolonged standing, stretching, bending, and reaching. They may also need to frequently lift and carry supplies weighing 30 to 50 pounds, and occasionally up to 75 pounds.
• Driver’s License: Required only if the operation of a vehicle is necessary to perform essential duties.
• Authorization to Work: US citizenship is not required, but selected candidates must be authorized to work in the US according to Department of Homeland Security regulations.
• Background Check: Newly hired employees must agree to a thorough background check that includes fingerprinting.
• Residency Law (New Jersey First Act): In accordance with N.J.S.A. 52:14-7, all persons newly hired by the Judiciary must establish and maintain principal residence in New Jersey within one year, unless an exemption is granted.
