4. Position Purpose & Learning Focus:
• The primary goal of this internship is to assist in day-to-day supervised activities related to construction project development.
• It aims to build foundational knowledge in several key areas:
• Construction management
• Business and project financial management
• Project safety protocols
• Subcontractor relationships
• Quality control
• Project coordination and lifecycle
• Where applicable, the assignment will support learning that applies to earning educational credits.
5. Essential Duties & Key Responsibilities:
The Intern/Co-Op will work under supervision, potentially at an active construction project site or in a main office department. Core responsibilities include:
• General Support:
• Meeting coordination.
• Material tracking.
• File management and document control.
• Progress reporting.
• Instruction & Learning:
• Comprehending and following project site signage and supervisor instructions.
• Providing progress reports to the supervisor.
• Being receptive to learning about construction management.
• Relating and applying academic knowledge to work activities.
• Professionalism & Safety:
• Maintaining professional relationships with employees, customers, clients, and subcontractors.
• Participating in training, meetings, and orientation.
• Complying with safety protocols, following safety expectations, and wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
• Specific Project Activities (may vary based on assignment length and focus):
• Assisting with project start-up activities and supporting Project Engineers, Superintendents, and/or Project Managers.
• Aiding in the collection, review, and approval of information for shop drawings, submittals, and Requests for Information (RFIs).
• Helping prepare and distribute information for contract requirements.
• Assisting with preparing estimates for changes in work from subcontractors.
• Attending project site visits to observe and document construction field activities.
• Assisting with preparation and conducting correspondence/communication with Architects, Engineers, vendors, and subcontractors.
• Aiding communication with Trades and subcontractors to track job schedules.
• Assisting with monitoring contractor compliance with Turner’s safety program.
• Helping prepare quantity take-offs and studies for project items (traditional or computer-aided).
• Requesting and distributing subcontractor proposals.
• Assisting with project close-out preparations.
6. Qualifications:
• Education:
• Currently enrolled and actively pursuing a college or university accredited degree program, OR enrolled in a Co-op program.
• Recommended majors include Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or other related fields.
• Must have completed at least 1 year of education, and/or possess equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Age: Must be at least 18 years of age to work at a construction project site.
• Desire & Commitment:
• Strong desire to work in construction management and learn about the construction industry.
• Commitment to work standard business hours and overtime as determined by the assignment.
• Interpersonal & Communication Skills:
• Demonstrated interpersonal skills, including student leadership, volunteerism, or other community involvement.
• Professional and clear verbal and written communication skills in English language are required.
• Work Ethic & Attributes:
• Ability to read and comprehend written information.
• Assumes personal and professional accountability for own actions and activities.

7. Physical Demands:
The role requires a variety of physical capabilities, reflecting both office and construction site environments:
• Frequent: Sitting, using hands (finger, handle, feel), reaching with hands, talking, hearing, and general mobility.
• Site-Specific: Ability to climb permanent and temporary stairs, passenger use of construction personnel hoists, climb ladders, and navigate work areas under construction.
• Technology Use: Frequent viewing of computer monitor and use of computer keyboard.
• Vision: Specific vision abilities required include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
• Lifting: Regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
• Travel: May occasionally travel both short and long distances via various conveyances and perform work at on-site construction work sites and/or office locations.

The work environment will vary:
• Regularly: An office setting, where noise is typically quiet to moderate.
