This is a detailed description of an Intern position within the Construction Job Family at Turner, specifically for the Miami Main division.

Position Summary:
The role involves assisting in day-to-day supervised activities related to the development of a construction project. The primary goal is to build foundational knowledge in various aspects of construction, including construction management, business and project financial management, project safety protocols, subcontractor relationships, quality control, and project coordination and lifecycle. For eligible candidates, the assignment is designed to support learning that applies to earning educational credits.

Essential Duties & Key Responsibilities:
Interns/Co-Ops will work under supervision, assigned to either an active construction project site or a department within a main office, supporting one of the company’s construction specialties.

Core responsibilities include:
• Supporting the project team with meeting coordination, material tracking, file management, document control, and progress reporting.
• Comprehending and following project site signage and supervisor instructions.
• Providing progress reports to the supervisor and being receptive to learning about construction management.
• Applying academic knowledge to work activities.
• Maintaining professional relationships with employees, customers, clients, and subcontractors.
• Participating in training, meetings, and orientation sessions.
• Complying with safety protocols, following safety expectations, and wearing appropriate PPE (Personal Protection Equipment).
• Performing other assigned activities, duties, and responsibilities.

Depending on the specific assignment and duration (longer-term assignments offer more in-depth experience), additional activities may include:
• Assisting with project start-up activities and providing support to Project Engineers, Project Superintendents, and/or Project Managers.
• Helping with the collection and review of information and approvals for processing shop drawings, submittals, and Requests for Information (RFIs).
• Assisting with the preparation and distribution of information for contract requirements to relevant parties.
• Aiding in the preparation of estimates for changes in work from subcontractors.
• Attending project site visits to observe and document construction field activities.
• Assisting with the preparation and conducting correspondence and communication with Architects, Engineers, vendors, and subcontractors as directed.
• Helping to communicate with Trades and subcontractors to understand and track job schedules.
• Assisting with monitoring contractor compliance with Turner’s safety program, as directed.
• Helping with the preparation of quantity take-offs and studies for project items using traditional or computer-aided programs, and learning project details.
• Requesting and distributing subcontractor proposals to assemble proposals for the delivery system.
• Assisting with project close-out preparations.

Qualifications:
• Must be currently enrolled and actively pursuing a degree from an accredited college or university, or enrolled in a Co-op program. Recommended majors include, but are not limited to, Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or other related fields of study.
• A minimum of 1 year of completed education is required, and/or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Must be at least 18 years of age to work at a construction project site.
• Demonstrates a strong desire to work in construction management and learn about the construction industry.
• Commitment to working standard business hours and overtime as determined by the assignment.
• Possesses interpersonal skills, evidenced by student leadership, volunteerism, or community involvement.
• Professional and clear verbal and written communication skills in English are required.
• Ability to read and comprehend written information.
• Assumes personal and professional accountability for own actions and activities.
• Proactive, curious, and eager to learn and participate.
• Capable of working independently with direction and supervision, as well as in a team environment.
• Possesses exceptional organizational skills with attention to detail.
