Job Description:
This is an Intern position within the Manufacturing & Operations Department at the Graphic Packaging International facility in Visalia, CA. The Engineer Associate Intern will focus on process improvement tasks and projects aimed at:
• Reducing unscheduled downtime
• Increasing the lifespan of assets
• Enhancing processes to improve safety, quality, and plant performance.
Key Responsibilities:
• Capital Budget Support: Assist in managing the facility capital budget. This includes developing capital requests, RFPs, bid review, vendor recommendations, vendor hiring, construction management, and quality control of new projects.
• Project Management: Discuss and lay out project specifications, create detailed plans to achieve goals, review/approve/modify product designs, prepare budgets/bids/contracts, approve expenditures, review and recommend contracts, develop cost estimates, and draft proposals/reports for upper management.
• Process Improvement: Continuously improve production and maintenance processes to impact safety, efficiencies, and material/labor costs.
• Root Cause Analysis: Complete root cause failure analysis and implement corrective actions to improve efficiencies.
• Cost Savings: Identify and implement cost-saving initiatives.
• Best Practices: Implement and share best practices with other food service facilities.
• Safety: Contribute to a safe work environment by identifying and implementing safety improvements.
• Other Duties: As assigned.
Deliverables:
• Identify process improvements through analysis and problem-solving.
• Identify safety and ergonomic improvements and implement corrective actions.
• Achieve cost-saving targets by eliminating waste.
• Implement systems to improve equipment efficiencies.
• Support departments with training programs.
Education/Knowledge:
• Preferred field of study: Mechanical, Industrial, or Electrical Engineering.
Skills:
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Good leadership skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.
• Analytical problem-solving ability (TCC/Trouble Cause Correction).
• Ability to work well under pressure.
Schedule Demands:
• Primarily an 8-hour M-F assignment, but must be willing to work alternate schedules occasionally (early mornings, nights, weekends).
• Occasional overnight travel.
Physical Demands:
• Sitting or standing for extended periods (up to 8 hours).
• Occasional lifting up to 20 lbs.
• Reading computer screens.
• Use of office hand and electrical tools/equipment.
