Position: Intern
Primary Goals for Interns:
- Gain a fundamental understanding of the construction process.
- Assist Field Engineers and Office Engineers in field and materials management.
The internship program provides a valuable extended opportunity for both the intern and Hensel Phelps to evaluate mutual fit for a successful long-term career with the company after graduation.
Position Qualifications:
- Strong communication skills.
- Proficiency in computer software, including Microsoft Office Suite (specifically Excel-based templates), Prolog, Primavera, and AutoDesk Suite.
- Candidates are preferred to be pursuing a 4-year degree in Civil, Structural, Architecture, or Construction Management.
Essential Duties:
- Subcontractor Management.
- Submittal review skills.
- RFI development.
- Layout / surveying.
- Preparation of Daily reports.
- Contribution to Quality control and support of the company’s safety plan.
Physical Work Classification & Demands
Classification: Moderate Work – Requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
The individual in this position will periodically engage in the following activities:
- Movement: Walking, kneeling, sitting, crouching, reaching, stooping, pushing, pulling, lifting, standing.
- Office/Cognitive: Constantly operates a computer and other office machinery (such as a calculator, copy machine, phone, computer, and computer printer), reads/sees, speaks, and fingers/types.
- Communication: Frequently communicates with employees and external stakeholders regarding a variety of topics related to office administration.
- Analytical: Constantly computes, analyzes, and conceptualizes mathematical calculations and formulas.
- Reading: Constantly reads written communications and views mail submissions. Will also need to read blueprints and take/verify field measurements.
- Specific Physical Actions:
- Walking: The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, boxes, cabinets, etc.
- Climbing: Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, and ramps at various heights.
- Balancing: Ability to maintain body equilibrium to prevent falling, and to walk, stand, or crouch.
- Stooping: Bending the body downward and forward by the spine at the waist.
- Visual Acuity: Visual acuity and ability to operate a vehicle as certified and appropriate.
Environmental Exposure:
- Occasionally exposed to high and low temperatures.
- Frequently exposed to noisy environments and outdoor elements such as precipitation and wind.
