Job Description

This job is for an Intern position with Hensel Phelps. The primary goals for interns are to gain a comprehensive understanding of the construction process and to provide assistance to Field Engineers and Office Engineers in field and materials management. The internship program serves as an extended opportunity for both the intern and Hensel Phelps to evaluate suitability for a long-term career with the company post-graduation.

Compensation Range (Hawaii Only)
Hourly Wage Range: $26.00 – $28.00

Position Qualifications
• Must be a student at the University of Minnesota Duluth.
• Possess strong communication skills.
• Proficiency in computer software including Microsoft Office Suite (specifically Excel based templates), Prolog, Primavera, and AutoDesk Suite.
• Candidates are preferred to be pursuing a 4-year degree in Civil, Structural, Architecture, or Construction Management.

Essential Duties
• Subcontractor Management.
• Submittal review skills.
• RFI development.
• Layout / surveying.
• Daily reports.
• Quality control and support of the company’s safety plan.

Physical Work Classification & Demands
This position is classified as Moderate Work, requiring the ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 25 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
• The individual will periodically engage in actions such as walking, kneeling, sitting, crouching, reaching, stooping, reading/seeing, speaking, pushing, pulling, lifting, standing, and finger/typing.
Frequent activities include operating a computer and other office machinery, communicating with employees and external stakeholders, and computing/analyzing mathematical calculations.
Regular activities include sitting in front of a computer screen and reading written communications, blueprints, and verifying field measurements.
• The role also involves climbing (ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps), balancing, and stooping.
Visual acuity and ability to operate a vehicle (as certified) are required.
• Environmental exposure includes occasionally experiencing high and low temperatures, and frequently being exposed to noisy environments and outdoor elements such such as precipitation and wind.
