Job Description:

This is an unpaid internship opportunity through the DoD SkillBridge Program, exclusively for transitioning active-duty US military personnel within their final 180 days of service. The internship aims to provide real-world experience in the workforce. The intern will work on meaningful projects, mentored by senior company leadership, with the goal of transitioning into a full-time role at HII. The internship focuses on aligning military skills and training with the requirements of the position.

Specific Role: Information Technology Analyst Intern

The intern will train as an Information Technology Analyst within HII’s Mission Technologies division. The program is structured in three phases over approximately four months:

Phase 1: Basics (Weeks 1-5): This introductory phase covers onboarding, introductions to HII and client teams, and foundational IT support concepts including planning, design, acquisition, installation, testing, accreditation, fielding, support, and disposition of IT equipment and software. It also includes an introduction to managing network equipment (switches, routers, firewalls).

Phase 2: Configuration & Optimization of Networks (Weeks 6-13): This phase focuses on practical application, including configuring and troubleshooting video teleconferencing and VoIP systems, supporting infrastructure compatibility analysis, optimizing network hardware and software performance, and troubleshooting network problems.

Phase 3: Network Troubleshooting & Maintenance and Security Administration (Weeks 14-20): This advanced phase covers network equipment tracking, help desk support, system back-up and recovery, basic hardware maintenance, network cyber documentation, developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), conducting audits and vulnerability assessments, and managing classified information systems.

Additional Goals:*• The intern will also gain experience in project management.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Active-duty military personnel within the final 180 days of service. Applications can be submitted up to 12 months prior to separation.
TS/SCI security clearance
• Bachelor’s Degree in a related field, and a minimum of five (5) years’ experience maintaining IT systems OR a minimum of ten (10) years’ experience maintaining IT systems.
• DoD 8570 Information Assurance Management Level II certification, or equivalent, and 4 years of classified information systems experience working on DoD ACAT I, ACAT II, or ACAT III programs.
