SWCA is seeking a highly motivated Information Security Intern to join its Technology Team during the Summer of 2026. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the security and business needs of a leading environmental consulting firm in a challenging yet supportive environment. This full-time, paid internship is designed to run from early June to mid-August 2026. Candidates demonstrating the ability to start earlier or extend their commitment beyond August will be particularly valued. Interns will benefit from direct coaching and guidance from functional leadership within their respective support areas, in addition to participating in a broader internship cohort that offers scheduled developmental programming led by senior organizational leaders.

Compensation: $19.00/hr

What You Will Accomplish

As an Information Security Intern, you will play a hands-on role in supporting SWCA’s security posture:

  • Collaborate directly with information security and compliance analysts to assist in managing hardware, software, and network security assessments and recommendations.
  • Execute assigned security administration tasks, which may encompass firewall, endpoint, network, or server configuration and/or rule management.
  • Gain practical experience and understanding of the day-to-day responsibilities of an information security team, including active participation in problem-solving and investigations for security incident response and support requests.
  • Ensure full compliance with all SWCA and technology department policies and procedures, specifically those pertaining to equipment, hardware, software, security, access, and change management, in conjunction with department leads and specific departmental requirements.

Required Experience and Qualifications for Success

  • Academic Status: Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program, holding a junior classification or higher, with an emphasis in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Recent Graduates: Candidates who have graduated within 12 months of May 2026 will also be considered.
  • Remote Work Capability: Ability to effectively work remotely with a high-speed Internet connection from anywhere within the United States.

Required Knowledge & Experience (Academic)

Candidates should possess academic experience in the following areas:

  • Administering network technologies such as Cisco, Palo Alto, or Juniper.
  • Maintaining and managing Windows Server, Group Policy, and both on-premises and Azure Active Directory environments.

Required Personal Attributes

  • Demonstrated experience working both independently and collaboratively within a team-oriented environment.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, with a proven ability to meticulously document work.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, fostering effective communication and collaboration.
  • A strong capacity to learn, understand, and apply new technologies efficiently.
