Industrial Engineer Intern – Distribution Center / Warehouse Operations | Lennox
The Tone:
This is an internship at Lennox, located in Romeoville, IL. Lennox is a 130-year-old company specializing in HVAC and refrigeration, providing industry-leading climate-control solutions to residential and commercial customers. This role is crucial for supporting Operational Excellence within a distribution center by documenting processes, identifying improvements, and helping to standardize operations. It offers a practical opportunity for a student to contribute to supply chain and warehouse efficiency.
The TL;DR
• Role: Internship

• Pay: $21–$25 hourly
• Team: Reports directly to the Senior Operational Excellence (OpEx) Manager
• Mission: Document warehouse processes, identify improvement opportunities, and support standardization efforts across operations.
• Tech Stack: Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Visio
What You’ll Actually Do
• Support: Contribute to daily operational improvement initiatives within the warehouse.
• Document: Observe, map, and maintain current warehouse processes, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and work instructions.
• Analyze: Review packaging workflows to identify inefficiencies, bottlenecks, wastes, and areas for improvement.
• Collect Data: Assist with time studies, process audits, and various data collection activities.
• Develop: Help create visual management tools, training materials, and process documentation for warehouse associates.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain, Operations Management, or a related field.
• Experience: Strong interest in warehouse operations, logistics, and process improvement. Experience with process mapping and documentation.
• Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, excellent organizational and communication skills, and the ability to work independently. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio or similar process-mapping tools is preferred.
• Bonus: Understanding of Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement principles. Familiarity with warehouse or distribution center operations. Knowledge of packaging operations or material flow concepts. Ability to analyze operational data and identify trends.
