Job Summary

As an Industrial Engineer Intern, you will be an integral part of the Operational Excellence and Industrial Engineering team. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain practical experience, learn, and develop new skills while significantly enhancing your knowledge within the Industrial Engineering field. You will work closely with experienced professionals, assisting with various assignments that contribute to improving operational efficiency and processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Data Management & Analysis: Gather, compile, review, validate, and meticulously analyze data and information from diverse sources.
  • Reporting & Presentation: Utilize specialized software to compile and generate comprehensive reports, statistics, timelines, tables, graphs, correspondence, and compelling presentations.
  • Engineering Support: Collaborate closely with and assist engineers in the execution of various engineering assignments.
  • Time Management: Effectively manage time to ensure the timely completion of assigned tasks and projects.
  • Interpersonal & Networking Skills: Develop strong interpersonal skills and actively build a robust professional network within the organization.
  • Cross-Cultural Interaction: Interact effectively at all organizational levels and across diverse cultures.
  • Production Observation & Time Studies: Dedicate approximately 70% of time to supporting production, primarily by performing observations of operations and conducting detailed time studies.
  • Data Analysis: Allocate approximately 30% of time to analyzing collected data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
  • Facility Layout Validation: Utilize AutoCAD to validate and optimize facility layouts.
  • Lean/Six Sigma Application: Apply basic knowledge of Lean/Six Sigma Manufacturing methodologies for waste reduction, including concepts such as 5S, Standard Work, TAKT, Pull System, single-piece flow, Value Stream Mapping, and cell design/manufacturing flow.
  • Process Improvement: Support the creation of current state process flows based on observations and actively participate in brainstorming sessions aimed at process enhancement.
  • 6S Audits: Conduct regular 6S audits to ensure workplace organization and standardization.
  • Tool Familiarization: Perform a wide variety of tasks designed to gain familiarity with essential Industrial Engineering tools and techniques.
  • Organizational Support: Support, communicate, reinforce, and defend the mission, values, and culture of Leonardo DRS.
  • Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned by the team and management.

Qualifications

  • Education: Currently enrolled in a 4-year degree program or a 2-year Master’s program in Industrial Engineering.
  • Academic Standing: Must be enrolled at the time of application as a Junior or Senior with a minimum 3.0 GPA.
  • Software Proficiency: Proficient in MS Office suite, including PowerPoint, Excel, and Microsoft Word.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build a robust professional network.
  • Work Ethic: Must be diligent, hardworking, and a quick study.

Security Clearance & Citizenship Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • This position requires an active DOD security clearance or the ability to obtain such clearance within a reasonable time after commencement of employment.
