Indirect Tax Analyst | Daikin Comfort
The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Daikin Comfort, a company responsible for handling a variety of Daikin-owned entities. This position is crucial for ensuring accurate and timely indirect tax compliance, including the completion and filing of sales & use tax returns, thorough research of tax law changes, and robust support during sales & use tax audits. The Indirect Tax Analyst contributes significantly to the company’s financial integrity by managing essential tax functions and responding to regulatory inquiries, operating independently with general supervision while facing difficult, but not overly complex, problems. Continuous improvements are encouraged within this role.

• Mission: To ensure accurate and timely completion of all indirect tax functions, particularly sales and use tax, for a variety of Daikin-owned entities across domestic and Canadian operations.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Returns & Filings: Take primary responsibility for the preparation and accurate filing of monthly, quarterly, and annual sales & use tax returns for a diverse set of domestic and Canadian Daikin-owned entities.
• Compliance & Permits: Proactively manage all sales and use tax registration requests, qualifications, and ongoing maintenance of permits, while also assisting with general business license compliance and related items, including property tax and unclaimed property.
• Audit & Research: Provide critical support for sales & use tax audits by preparing detailed work papers and gathering existing information as requested by state taxing authorities, simultaneously conducting timely research into various sales and use tax issues and changes.
• Inquiry Response & Financials: Promptly respond to all state and local notices, assessments, and inquiries, ensuring all issues are addressed thoroughly and accurately, and continuously monitor the transaction tax accrual and payment General Ledger to resolve any reconciling discrepancies in a timely fashion.
• Special Projects & Payments: Execute various special indirect tax projects as required, such as preparing refund claims, and efficiently manage the completion of all check requests and Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) requests associated with these tax reports. Additionally, determine the proper taxability of customers and transactions.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Requires a 4-year degree in accounting, finance, or any related field, suitable for an Entry-Level career with a foundational understanding of indirect tax principles.
• Experience: Possess 1-3 years of relevant sales tax experience, gained from either public accounting or a multi-state corporate environment.
• Skills: Demonstrate strong written and oral communication, excellent analytical and organizational abilities, a detail-oriented and self-motivated approach, and proven experience with Sales and Use Tax return preparation software (Vertex preferred) and tax research. Proficiency in MS Office is essential.
• Bonus: Manufacturing industry experience is preferred, and familiarity with a mainframe-based ERP system such as MAPICS, MINCRON, and/or SAP is a valuable asset.
