Job Title: Hy-Chi Department Clerk
Department: Hy-Chi
FLSA: Non-Exempt

General Function:

The Hy-Chi Department Clerk is responsible for:

• Filling customer orders.
• Handling food safely.
• Ordering and receiving products.
• Ensuring order accuracy.
• Labeling, dating, and storing products.
• Providing courteous, friendly, and efficient customer service to both customers and team members to ensure a positive company image.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provides prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern, and patience in all customer interactions.
• Smiles and greets customers in a friendly manner.
• Learns customers’ names and addresses them by name whenever possible.
• Assists customers by escorting them to products, securing out-of-reach items, loading heavy items, noting customer suggestions, and enhancing the shopping experience.
• Answers the telephone promptly and provides helpful service, including taking customer orders.
• Takes customer orders at the Hy-Chi Department counter.
• Works with co-workers as a team.
• Understands and practices proper sanitation procedures, ensuring a clean work area.
• Reviews the status and appearance of food for freshness.
• Ensures an adequate food supply is ready and develops or follows a production list.
• Anticipates product needs daily.
• Prepares, finishes, and replenishes products.
• Pulls product from cooler/freezer for preparation.
• Checks in product, puts product away, and reviews invoices.
• Runs the department register, receives payment, and makes change, where applicable.
• Removes trash promptly.
• Maintains strict adherence to personal hygiene and dress guidelines.
• Adheres to company policies and store guidelines and reports to work when scheduled and on time.

Secondary Duties and Responsibilities:

• Washes dishes as necessary.
• Orders product and supplies as necessary.
• Prices products for customers as necessary.
• Delivers orders as needed.
• Assists in other areas of the store as needed.
• Performs other job-related duties and special projects as required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Ability to follow detailed written or verbal instructions and deal with concrete variables.
• Ability to perform simple addition and subtraction, copy figures, and count and record.
• Ability to understand and follow verbal or demonstrated instructions, write identifying information, and request supplies orally or in writing.

Education and Experience:

• High school or equivalent experience and six months or less of similar or related experience.

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds frequently, and up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
• Specific vision requirements, including close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and field of vision.
• Must be able to perform physical activities such as climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, finger dexterity, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.

Working Conditions:

• Continual exposure to flour, dust, noise, and temperature extremes. Occasional exposure to cleaning chemicals/solvents.
• Fast-paced work environment with significant pressure.

Equipment Used:

• Oven, steamer, scale, big mixer, shrink wrap machine, Telexon re-ordering machine, register, walk-in cooler, knives, serving cases, and C.A.R.S. system.

Compensation:

• The anticipated hourly starting wage is $13.50 to $16.80 depending on experience.
