About the Company:
InterDent, based in El Segundo, CA, with a second corporate office in Vancouver, WA, operates nearly 200 dental practices across eight states (Arizona, California, Hawaii, Kansas, Nevada, Oklahoma, Oregon, and Washington) under the brands Gentle Dental and Smile Keepers. They provide business support to these practices.
Job Description: Human Resources Specialist
This is a full-time, hybrid position requiring a minimum of four days on-site per week, based out of either El Segundo, CA or Vancouver, WA. The Human Resources Specialist will support the overall HR function for all dental offices in California and Hawaii (30+ offices). The role focuses on employee relations and HR support in a multi-site environment, with additional responsibilities supporting the Leaves and Benefits team. A strong service mindset is essential.
Core Responsibilities:
• Develop and maintain a deep understanding of the supported business units.
• Manage all employee relations issues within the California and Hawaii region.
• Build and maintain positive relationships with employees at all levels (employees, managers, directors, executives).
• Support the Regional Vice President and Directors of Operations in implementing performance improvement strategies.
• Collaborate with Operations leaders on regional development needs.
• Coach leaders on performance management, behavioral issues, policy interpretation, and terminations to minimize legal risk.
• Facilitate and mediate interventions to resolve conflicts.
• Benefits Responsibilities: Provide timely and accurate responses to employee and management inquiries regarding day-to-day HR issues. Manage communication via phone and email. Update information in the HRIS and intranet portal.
Qualifications:
• Proven experience in employee relations.
• Excellent customer service skills, with the ability to handle difficult and stressful situations.
• Strong communication skills (written, verbal, persuasion, motivation, relationship building).
• Strong critical thinking and good judgment.
• Desire for professional growth and development in HR.
• Ability to manage business expectations and resolve concerns through effective communication.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and escalate issues appropriately.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and HRIS systems.
Education and Experience:
• Minimum of an Associate’s degree in Human Resources or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• At least one year of HR administration experience (Benefits, HRIS, or LOA administration; internship experience may be considered).
• Solid understanding of general HR and employment law.
