About the NC Department of Public Safety (DPS):

The NC Department of Public Safety’s (DPS) mission is to safeguard and preserve the lives and property of North Carolina’s citizens through prevention, protection, and preparation. DPS employs approximately 6,000 permanent staff and nearly 13,000 North Carolina National Guard soldiers and airmen. Their work encompasses law enforcement, juvenile justice programs, emergency response and recovery, and homeland security preparedness, contributing to a safe environment for residents and visitors. Job Description: Human Resources Internship (Summer 2025)

This part-time, hybrid internship (up to 30 hours/week) is offered within the Human Resources section of the North Carolina National Guard, a division of DPS. The internship runs from May 19, 2025, to July 25, 2025, with a Monday-Friday schedule from 8 am to 5 pm. The pay rate is $18.00 per hour. The position offers the possibility of part-time teleworking through the State Telework Program.

Responsibilities include a variety of HR projects, providing exposure to HRIS and ATS systems. Specific duties are:

• Answering communications and referring inquiries appropriately.
• Maintaining personnel and medical records.
• Maintaining confidentiality of HR information.
• Updating job knowledge through training and professional development.
• Completing assigned tasks to support HR and organizational goals.
• Managing HR records (applications, logs, employee forms).
• Responding to HR-related queries.
• Assisting with training material distribution.
• Supporting new employee onboarding.
• Contributing to recruitment efforts.
• Assisting the HR Manager and staff with daily operations.

Qualifications:

• College coursework in Human Resources or Business Administration, and/or human resources experience.
• A college transcript is required for eligibility.
• A letter of recommendation from a professional reference or academic advisor/professor is needed before hiring.

• Ability to learn and apply HR rules, procedures, and practices.

Additional Notes:

• The internship is open to current college students pursuing a degree in Human Resources or Business Administration, and recent graduates (within the last 6 months).
• This is a temporary position with Temporary Solutions; leave and retirement benefits are not included.
