Job Description:
Chartwells Higher Education is seeking a motivated and people-oriented individual to join their team as a Human Resources Intern. This role will involve working closely with the Chartwells Management team at Eastern Michigan University to implement and assist with HR policies. The internship is designed to be both educational and practical, allowing the intern to apply their learned skills in a professional setting.
Key Responsibilities:
• Recruitment and Staffing: Assist in building upon local recruitment activity by posting and monitoring requisitions.
• HR Administration:
• Conduct HR assessments to audit the health of the operation.
• Become familiar with Payroll policies and procedures, filing, reviewing records, and identifying training areas for labor compliance.
• Maintain and update personnel files to ensure accuracy and consistency.
• Assist with the Hourly Onboarding process and timely completion of I-9s for new hires.
• Orchestrate and track Passport training for current and new hourly associates.
• Associate Relations & Compliance:
• Participate in the Safety Committee on campus and assist with Accident Investigations and driving Safety Compliance.
• Assist the Management team with monitoring timely completion of appraisals for associates.
• Participate in YouFirst and CHAT programs to drive hourly training and recognition.
• Ensure all Company, state, and federal postings are up-to-date.
• Communication & Collaboration:
• Communicate with multiple departments to obtain information necessary to complete duties.
• Build sustainable relationships by effectively interacting and collaborating with customers, team members, and technical teams.
• Provide training for managers and back-up coverage for team members as required.
• Project Management: Complete various assignments and projects as needed.
• Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
• Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
• Customer service experience/knowledge
• Knowledge of social media platforms
• Ability to build relationships and articulate ideas
• Undergraduate student pursuing a degree in Human Resources, Business, or a relevant field
• Intermediate level proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Strong interpersonal, analytical, listening, and verbal communication skills
• Excellent time management and organizational skills
• Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
• Student membership in SHRMA (Society for Human Resource Management) is a plus
