Paralegal – HUD 232 Loan and Real Estate Transactions | Ice Miller LLP

The Tone:

The paralegal is critical for managing time-sensitive HUD loan and real estate transactions, ensuring strict confidentiality, and providing essential support to attorneys and clients.

What You’ll Actually Do
• HUD Loan Documentation: Draft a variety of borrower and operator side deliverables for HUD 232 loans, specifically including organizational documents, lease memoranda, addenda and estoppels, and management agreement addenda.
• HUD Loan Coordination: Communicate directly with clients and lender’s counsel to coordinate the thorough delivery of all information required for HUD 232 application submissions, and manage the entire closing process for HUD 232 loans involving clients, title companies, and lenders.
• Real Estate Due Diligence: Review comprehensive real estate due diligence materials specifically for finance, acquisition, and disposition transactions to ensure all required information is complete and accurate.
• Title Examination & Curative: Critically review title reports and policies, including their underlying documentation support, to ascertain property ownership, identify encumbrances, and verify other pertinent checklist items for various real estate transactions.
• Corporate & Closing Management: Draft corporate organizational documentation like LLC and LP agreements and file with appropriate jurisdictions; draft lease abstracts; and work closely with attorneys, title companies, lenders, and real estate agents to facilitate real estate closings by anticipated dates, including managing timetables for multiple transactions.

The Must-Haves
• Background: A Bachelor’s degree is required, coupled with a fundamental understanding of HUD loans and their involved processes, as well as a solid grasp of real estate terminology and real estate transaction management.
• Experience: Demonstrated previous experience specifically with HUD 232 loans is essential, alongside practical experience in real estate transaction management.
• Skills: Strong organizational skills, exceptional attention to detail, analytical and critical thinking capabilities, and the ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing. The role also requires resourcefulness, flexibility, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while taking initiative to complete tasks.
• Bonus: A paralegal certificate is a distinct advantage for this position.
