HR Service Center/Payroll Intern Spring 2027 | BMW Group
The Tone:
This is a full-time internship at BMW Group, located in Spartanburg, South Carolina. BMW Group, through its BMW Manufacturing Company, operates a significant automotive production plant, and this role is integral to the smooth functioning of its human resources operations. The intern will gain broad exposure to the entire HR landscape, contributing to vital process improvements, supporting core HR Service Center activities, and ensuring precise and timely payroll management for associates at Plant Spartanburg.

What You’ll Actually Do
• New Hire Process Management: Facilitate new hire processes by supporting new hire orientations and meetings, actively gathering necessary documentation from newly hired associates, and following up for any missing information to ensure all entry paperwork is completed accurately, timely, and in compliance with Federal regulations.
• Process Improvement & Documentation: Drive operational excellence and efficiency within HR by leading key process improvement activities, reviewing existing documentation, and updating process documentation to reflect current best practices and ensure clarity.
• Data Analysis & Reporting: Transform raw data into meaningful insights and visual representations by completing comprehensive data analysis and subsequently creating informative data visualizations and dashboards utilizing Power BI for various reporting needs.
• Customer Service & Payroll Support: Provide essential and prompt customer service to associates, addressing their general HR inquiries, responding to payroll questions, and clarifying payroll-related policy questions with accuracy and professionalism, while also completing payroll mail topics in a timely manner.
• Audit & Compliance: Maintain data integrity, compliance, and accurate record-keeping by conducting thorough new hire and payroll audits, running necessary reports, and preparing data for critical audits, plant-wide reporting requirements, legal requests, and completing all necessary audits for the Time Management team, including supporting Plant Spartanburg’s service anniversary award program.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-Level. Candidates must be currently pursuing a degree in Human Resources, Business Management, Accounting, Finance, or Information Technology. Enrollment is required as a student at an accredited four-year college or university in the United States, with a minimum of 30 credit hours completed at the time of application and a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher (transfer students must meet this GPA at their current university).
• Experience: Competent knowledge of Microsoft Office Products including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
• Skills: Analytical skills, data analysis and visualization (Power BI), customer service, and attention to detail for audit and compliance tasks.
