Detailed Job Description: Hospitality and Events Intern
This is an unpaid internship requiring academic credit through a college or university program. Applicants should be pursuing or have recently received a bachelor’s degree in Sports Management, Hospitality, or a related field.
The intern will gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced environment, directly impacting the organization. The role involves a variety of tasks and responsibilities, including:
• Food and Beverage Service: Ensuring professional and timely food and beverage service; monitoring setup and maintenance of match day/event spaces; supervising manpower, supplies, and equipment; shadowing management in hiring, scheduling, and supervising staff; maintaining a positive atmosphere; conducting employee training; adhering to etiquette and decorum standards; meeting and greeting customers; maintaining product quality and service; and handling customer concerns.
• Facility Maintenance: Maintaining the facility, physical plant, and equipment; submitting and following up on work orders; maintaining clean and organized storage areas; complying with stadium policies; assisting with reports and requisitions; regulating supply distribution.
• Guest Service: Providing direct service to guests (serving tables, bussing tables, etc.); performing general cleaning tasks.
• Food and Beverage Area Control: Checking areas for maintenance needs; ensuring correct billing; maintaining vendor integrity (especially regarding alcohol).
• Match Day Responsibilities: Representing Sporting Kansas City at home matches; engaging with guests; creating positive fan experiences.
• Administrative Tasks: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Calendar) is required. The role may involve other tasks as assigned.
Required Skills and Experience:
• Currently pursuing or recently graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Hospitality or Sports Management.
• Ability to work independently and present to groups.
• Fluent in English (speaking, reading, writing).
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
