Detailed Job Description: Hospitality and Events Intern

This is an unpaid, educational internship requiring academic credit through a college or university degree program. Applicants must be actively pursuing or have recently received a bachelor’s degree in Sports Management, Hospitality, or a related field.

The intern will gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced environment, directly impacting professional soccer in Kansas City. Key responsibilities include:

Food and Beverage Service: Ensuring professional and timely food and beverage service; monitoring and supervising match day/event setup and maintenance; ensuring sufficient manpower, supplies, and equipment; shadowing management in hiring, scheduling, and supervising staff; maintaining a positive atmosphere; conducting employee training; adhering to etiquette and decorum standards; meeting and greeting customers; supervising product quality and service; maintaining facilities and equipment; submitting and following up on work orders; maintaining storage areas; complying with stadium policies; assisting with reports and requisitions; regulating supply distribution; providing direct guest service (serving, bussing, general duties); performing cleaning tasks; controlling food and beverage areas (maintenance, billing, vendor relations); observing service standards; handling customer concerns.

Match Day Responsibilities: Representing Sporting Kansas City at all home matches; engaging with guests; creating positive fan experiences (“Magic Moments”).

Administrative Tasks: Proficient use of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Calendar). Ability to work independently on projects and present findings to a group.

Required Skills and Experience:

• Currently pursuing or recently graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Hospitality, Sports Management, or a related field.
• Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to organize work effectively, prioritize, and exercise independent judgment.
• Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
• Professional appearance and attitude; ability to work collaboratively.
• Fluency in written and spoken English.
