Historical Intern (Summer 2024)
The City of Coral Springs is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Historical Intern to join our team for the Summer 2024 season. This exciting opportunity offers hands-on experience in preserving, organizing, and digitizing the city’s rich historical collection, contributing to both physical exhibits and a growing online digital archive. The intern will work under supervision, gaining valuable skills in historical research, archival management, and community engagement within a local government context.
Compensation:
- Undergraduate College Students: $15.00/hour
- Graduate Students: $18.00/hour
Internship Duration:
- Planned to run from June 8th to July 31st, 2024.
Key Responsibilities:
- Organize, catalog, and digitize historical documents and artifacts.
- Assist with scanning, digital object photography, and uploading items to the city’s online digital archive.
- Conduct research and prepare historical content for exhibits, publications, and community programs.
- Support the development of creative and interactive exhibits for the Museum of Coral Springs History.
- Collaborate with the Historical Advisory Committee.
- Participate in America 250-related activations and celebrations.
Learning Outcomes:
Through this internship, participants will:
- Develop skills in archival management, historical research, and digital preservation.
- Gain experience in creating and presenting historical exhibits and content.
- Enhance communication, organizational, and historical writing skills.
- Understand the vital role of local government in preserving and sharing community history.
Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing a Major in History, Library Sciences, or a related field.
- Working knowledge of databases, grammar, scanning, and digital object photography.
- Demonstrated experience with historical writing and research.
- Familiarity with archival software and digital tools, including Adobe Creative Cloud and/or Past Perfect Archival software, is a plus.
- Possess strong organizational and communication skills.
