About the Job

The City of Port St. Lucie’s paid internship program offers high school students hands-on experience in local government while developing professional skills. Interns will work across select departments during an 8-week summer term, earning $15/hour in a structured and supportive environment.

Facilitates the development of public trust and confidence in the City.

The following duties are illustrative of this position. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Keeps the mission, vision, and values of the City of Port St. Lucie at the forefront of decision making and action; builds strategic and collaborative relationships and interacts with others in a way that builds confidence and trust; provides excellent customer service by taking action to accomplish objectives; maintains high levels of work and productivity by generating innovative solutions to work situations.
  • Assist assigned City department staff with daily tasks and projects.
  • Participates in professional development workshops and enrichment sessions.
  • Maintains punctuality, professionalism, and a positive attitude.
  • Completes assignments as directed by supervisor and program coordinators.
  • Supports team development through mentorship and engagement.
  • Other duties as may be assigned.

Education And/Or Experience

Must be a current student attending St. Lucie Public or Charter Schools who is currently in their sophomore or junior year at the time of applying for the internship. At the time of application, two letters of recommendation from teachers, parents, counselors, or community leaders are required. The student must be sixteen (16) years or older.
