Overview: Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center High School Foundations Summer Internship Program

Are you a high school student interested in exploring career pathways within a healthcare environment but unsure where to begin? The Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center invites you to discover the diverse opportunities available through its High School Foundations Summer Internship Program.

This robust 7-week, full-time summer experience combines paid work, professional development, mentoring, and experiential learning. Our primary goal is to ignite a lasting interest in the multitude of careers within the healthcare industry, while simultaneously equipping you with essential workplace skills.

Program Structure and Experience:

  • Rotational Internship Model: Interns will gain a broad perspective by working in 2-3 different host departments across the institution throughout the summer. This provides an opportunity to perform a variety of tasks, understand the operational intricacies of a healthcare organization, and explore different professional environments firsthand.
  • Professional Development Curriculum: The program includes a comprehensive curriculum designed to foster critical competencies such as:

    • Teamwork

This is a paid program that requires a 7-week full-time commitment. We are specifically looking for high school students who are enthusiastic about exploring the world of healthcare!

Locations:

  • Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, Lebanon, New Hampshire (Primary Location)
  • Additional opportunities may be available at other Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center locations, but will require weekly travel to our Lebanon, NH location.

Application Requirements:

  • Your Resume
  • One letter of reference from someone with whom you have worked professionally or who can speak to your character (e.g., teacher, coach, mentor, manager, etc.).

Qualifications:

  • Must have completed your sophomore year of high school.
  • Must be at least 16 years old by the first day of the internship (June 22, 2026).
  • Availability to commit to the full 7-week program.
  • You must arrange your own housing and transportation.
  • Eligible for employment in the United States.
  • Successfully complete the DH pre-employment screening process, including a criminal background check and drug screen.
