Job Description:
The High School Foundations Summer Internship Program at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center (DHMC) is a robust 7-week, full-time, paid summer experience designed for high school students.
Program Goal:
The program aims to spark a lasting interest in the numerous career pathways available in the healthcare industry, while simultaneously offering interns the opportunity to practice important workplace skills and gain a comprehensive understanding of how a healthcare organization operates.
Key Components & Experience:
• Work Experience: Interns will work in 2-3 different host departments across the institution through a rotational internship model. This allows for performing a variety of tasks, gaining a broader perspective of the many people, skills, and roles involved in patient care, and exploring diverse professional environments firsthand.
• Professional Development: The internship includes a structured curriculum focused on developing critical competencies such as communication, teamwork, problem-solving, self-development, empathy, work ethic, and initiative.
• Cohort Experience: Interns will be part of a cohort, participating in a series of workshops for personal and professional growth, mentoring, and networking opportunities.
• Mentoring: The program includes mentoring to support intern development.
• Experiential Learning: Hands-on experience within a professional working environment.
Commitment & Location:
• Duration: A mandatory 7-week, full-time commitment during the summer.
• Primary Location: Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, Lebanon, New Hampshire.
• Travel: Additional opportunities may be available at other Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center locations, but these will require weekly travel to the Lebanon, NH location.
• Logistics: Interns must arrange their own housing and transportation.

Qualifications:
• Must have completed your sophomore year of high school.
• Must be at least 16 years old by the first day of the internship (June 22, 2026).
• Availability to commit to the full 7-week program.
• Must arrange your own housing and transportation.
• Must be eligible for employment in the United States.
• Must successfully complete the DH pre-employment screening process, including a criminal background check and drug screen.
