MPC Commercial Internship Job Descriptions

MPC offers several Commercial internship opportunities. Some travel may be required for each role:

1. Scheduling Intern:

Responsibilities: Optimize resource allocation and production schedules by scheduling the delivery of light products, feedstocks, and biofuels via pipeline or waterborne transportation. Coordinate pipeline, barge, and tanker movements for efficient timing, batch size, and shipment sequences. Monitor inventories and adjust shipping schedules to avoid shortages and minimize costs. Develop improved scheduling methods and coordinate communication between departments regarding inventory or operational issues.
Desired Major/Minor: Business Administration, Management, Marketing, Supply Chain, Logistics, Finance or related disciplines.

2. Marketing Intern:

Corporate Office-based: Analyze market trends, consumer behavior, and competitive landscapes to identify growth opportunities. Gather and interpret data, create reports, and assist in developing marketing strategies and campaigns. Experience in market research and data-driven decision-making.
Field-based: Learn the responsibilities of a Territory Manager. Travel to customer offices or dealer gasoline locations, assist in prospecting for new customers, and contribute to projects related to station financials and operations.
Desired Major/Minor: Business Administration, Management, Marketing, Finance, Business Analytics or related disciplines.

3. Analytics Intern:

Responsibilities: Assist in collecting, cleaning, and analyzing data to uncover trends and generate insights. Create reports and dashboards, conduct preliminary data analysis, and support data-related projects.
Desired Major/Minor: Business Administration, Management, Marketing, Supply Chain, Logistics, Finance, Business Analytics, Data Science or related disciplines.
Areas of Focus: Data Analytics & Strategy (DAS), Prediction & Optimization, Commercial Risk, Pricing, Renewables, Liquified Petroleum Gas exports, Pet Coke/Sulfur, Natural Gas Liquids (NGL), and Petrochemicals.

4. Coordinating Intern:

Responsibilities: Manage and streamline operational and project-related tasks. Support coordination efforts across departments, ensuring smooth communication and project execution. Schedule meetings, track project progress, prepare reports, and assist with administrative tasks.
Desired Major/Minor: Business Administration, Management, Marketing, Supply Chain, Logistics, Finance, Business Analytics or related disciplines.

5. Systems Support Intern:

Responsibilities: Maintain and troubleshoot commercial systems and applications. Serve as a liaison between the Commercial organization and IT regarding application enhancements, fixes, upgrades, new features, and usability. Leverage tools like Tableau, Power BI, and Alteryx to improve user experience.
Desired Major/Minor: Business Administration, Management, Marketing, Supply Chain, Logistics, Finance, Business Analytics, Data Science or related disciplines.

6. Commercial Development Intern:

Responsibilities: Support the identification and pursuit of new commercial opportunities. Conduct market research, competitive analysis, and assist in proposal and presentation preparation. Collaborate with senior team members to analyze industry trends, assess project viability, and contribute to strategic planning.
Desired Major/Minor: Business Administration, Management, Marketing, Supply Chain, Logistics, Finance, Business Analytics or related disciplines.
