Job Descriptions for MPC Commercial Interns

Scheduling Intern:

Responsibilities:
• Optimize resource allocation and production schedules by scheduling the delivery of light products, feedstocks, and biofuels via pipeline or waterborne transportation.
• Coordinate pipeline, barge, and/or tanker movements for appropriate timing, batch size, and product shipment sequence to optimize product supply and minimize transportation costs.
• Monitor inventories at terminals and refineries daily, adjusting shipping schedules to avoid shortages and minimize working capital.
• Develop improved scheduling methods to efficiently utilize company resources, optimize inventory levels, and minimize transportation costs.
• Coordinate communication between terminals, Commercial, Exchange, and Product Quality departments.

Marketing Intern (Corporate Office-Based):

Responsibilities:
• Analyze market trends, consumer behavior, and competitive landscapes to identify growth opportunities.

• Gain hands-on experience in market research and data-driven decision-making.
• Exposure to various aspects of MPC’s business, including Product Quality, Governmental Affairs, Business Development, Terminal, Transport, and Rail.

Marketing Intern (Field-Based):

Responsibilities:
• Learn the job responsibilities of a Territory Manager by spending time in the field.
• Travel to customer offices and dealer gasoline locations with a Territory Manager.
• Assist in prospecting for new customers.
• Take responsibility for projects/studies relating to station financials and operation.
• Exposure to different components of the Commercial organization and other corporate components, such as Product Quality, Governmental Affairs, Business Development, Terminal, Transport, and Rail.

Analytics Intern:

Responsibilities:
• Support data-driven initiatives by assisting in collecting, cleaning, and analyzing data to uncover trends and generate actionable insights.

• Gain hands-on experience in data analysis and visualization.
• Contribute to real-world business decisions.

Responsibilities:
• Assist in managing and streamlining various operational and project-related tasks.
