Job Summary: About the Health and Safety Internship Development Program

We are thrilled to offer current college students an immersive and hands-on experience through our Health and Safety Internship Development Program. This intensive 10-week program, commencing in May of each calendar year, is meticulously designed to provide interns with a deep understanding of Cemex’s operations within the critical Health and Safety division.

As an Internship Development Professional (IDP), you will gain exposure to a range of vital areas, including:
Core Health and Safety Functions: Understanding the fundamental principles and practices governing workplace safety.
Cemex Health & Safety Systems: Learning about and utilizing Cemex’s proprietary safety management systems.
Industrial Hygiene & Occupational Health: Exploring practices related to identifying, evaluating, and controlling workplace health hazards.
Identifying Root Cause Analysis: Participating in investigations to determine the underlying causes of incidents and near-misses.
Reviewing Risk Assessments: Engaging in the process of identifying potential hazards and evaluating risks to implement control measures.

Safety First: Actively promote and ensure a safe working environment for all. You will not only learn about Cemex’s rigorous safety protocols but also play a proactive role in their implementation and adherence.
Project-Based Experience: Engage in challenging and impactful projects that provide a comprehensive view of our Health and Safety operations. You will work alongside experienced professionals to solve real-world problems and drive meaningful change within the organization.
Skill Building: Develop both essential technical and valuable soft skills through hands-on work and continuous learning opportunities. You will also have the chance to refine your presentation skills by sharing your project outcomes and insights with our leadership team.
Networking and Collaboration: Build meaningful connections with peers and professionals across various departments within the organization. These interactions will offer you a broader perspective on the building materials industry and help you establish a valuable network for your future career.
Innovation and Improvement: We highly value unique viewpoints and original ideas. You will be actively encouraged to bring forward innovative solutions that contribute to the continuous improvement of our Health and Safety processes and systems.

Qualifications: Who We Are Looking For

We are seeking enthusiastic and proactive students who are eager to explore the world of end-to-end Health and Safety operations and maximize this unique learning opportunity. Ideal candidates will possess:

Educational Foundation:
Active pursuit of a bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Engineering, Construction Science Management, Construction Management, or a similar relevant major.
At least junior year standing by the start of the internship.
Academic Performance:
• A GPA of 2.5 or above, with a preference for those with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Relevant Experience:
• Ideally, around 2 years of relevant experience gained through placements, co-op positions, or prior internships.
Experience in Construction Management or Industrial Safety is a plus, but not strictly required.
Leadership Potential:
Demonstrated leadership qualities and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
Communication Skills:
Strong analytical and exceptional communication abilities, with the capability to present ideas clearly, concisely, and effectively to diverse audiences.
Technical Proficiency:
Proficiency in essential tools such as Excel and Power BI.
Team Collaboration:
• Enjoyment of both independent work and collaborative teamwork.

Working Conditions

Work Schedule: This is an on-site internship with a 40-hour work week, typically Monday through Friday.
Environment: Expect a dynamic mix of office work and fieldwork, where you will be exposed to varying environmental conditions, including outdoor settings at our operational sites.
