Health and Safety and Quality Intern (May – August)

The Ville Mont-Royal facility is a corrugated box manufacturing plant, employing over 150 people. We are currently recruiting a Health and Safety and Quality Intern for the period of May to August, to support the plant in improving safety and quality by participating in projects and initiatives.

The Health and Safety/Quality Intern will assist department managers in their efforts to ensure plant compliance with regulations. The candidate will be exposed to safety and quality systems within a manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

Quality

  • Assist with quality audits (verification of empty lines, boxes, plates, in-process control, manufacturing joints).
  • Assist with the Reference Box Expert program.
  • Digitize training attestations and perform related tasks for SQF preparation.
  • Audit quality testing equipment and update the calibration document.
  • Participate in the management of the quarantine area and update the sorting document.
  • Participate in cleanliness audits and audits of wood and glass panels.
  • Assist in the preparation of quality committees.
  • Assist in the rigorous follow-up of action tables by staying in contact with relevant parties.
  • Actively participate in the preparation of quality events such as the rodeo, World Quality Day, etc.

Health and Safety

  • Assist in the creation of a Musculoskeletal Disorder (MSD) prevention program.
  • Create and implement a process for ergonomic assessments.
  • Participate in and compile data from Safety Walks (Gemba Walks).
  • Participate in “At the Heart of Safety” meetings and compile data (meetings with employees).
  • Participate in the drafting or updating of Safe Work Procedures and lockout/tagout binders.
  • Assist in tracking corrective actions resulting from concerns, incidents, and learning events.
  • Assist in creating or updating PowerPoint presentations for toolbox trainings.
  • Assist in OHS communication (posters, awareness campaigns).
  • Assist in the preparation of committee meetings and provide support to department representatives.
  • Assist in the creation of digital forms and follow-up on OHS inspections.

Requirements

  • To apply, candidates must be enrolled in a university program in Operations and Logistics Management or in a Health and Safety program. Ideally, you are in your 2nd year of your program.
  • Excellent communication, ownership, interpersonal, and time management skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; ability to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships; strong team spirit.
  • Ability to manage time effectively, prioritize tasks; ability to work meticulously.
  • Ability to identify, analyze, and solve problems.
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Excel, Word, and other Microsoft Office programs.

Conditions

  • The hourly rate for this position is $23.00.
  • The position is on-site.
