This is a large, AAHA-accredited veterinary hospital with over 60 years of experience as a trusted leader in veterinary care. Located just 30 minutes from Lake Tahoe, it serves the vibrant Tahoe community and offers an ideal setting for both professional and personal life.
The hospital is a state-of-the-art, cutting-edge 15,000 sq. ft. facility equipped with:
• 21 exam rooms
• Multiple surgery and dental suites
• A brand-new CT scan machine
• A brand-new ultrasound machine
The team comprises 14 experienced veterinarians, including two managing doctors/co-owners who are deeply committed to mentorship and professional development. They are supported by a dedicated hospital management team focused on delivering exceptional patient care in a collaborative work environment. The hospital handles a diverse and high-volume caseload, including exotic animals, urgent care, and orthopedic cases such as TPLO surgeries.
Job Description (Externship)
This is a Hands-On Externship opportunity designed primarily for 4th-year veterinary students (also open to 3rd-year students) eager to gain real-world experience in a progressive, high-volume, and high-tech veterinary hospital. The program aims to take clinical skills to the next level through direct engagement and mentorship.
Key Responsibilities and Learning Experiences:
• Patient Care & Communication: Engage directly in patient care and build essential client communication skills under the guidance of skilled veterinarians.
• Clinical Procedures: Observe and actively assist with a wide range of medical, surgical, and dental procedures, including complex orthopedic cases like TPLOs.
• Diverse Caseload Exposure: Gain invaluable experience in treating exotic animals and managing urgent care cases, offering exposure to a varied and challenging caseload.
• Skill Development: Develop confidence in clinical decision-making and case management through hands-on participation in real clinical cases.
• Best Practices: Learn best practices in medical recordkeeping, diagnostics, and efficient hospital workflow.
• Hospital Operations: Gain critical insight into hospital operations and the veterinary business model.
