Job Description:

This is a Grant Writer Intern position at Esurgi, suitable for individuals interested in careers involving manuscript writing, research, or funding in fields like medicine, research and development, academia, or the non-profit sector. The intern will research scientific literature, apply academic knowledge to solve industry problems, and write and apply to grant applications for a device that treats people with chronic low back pain.

Responsibilities and Experience Gained:

• Participate in the grant writing process for proposals.
• Become familiar with grant applications to organizations such as, NIH and NSF.
• Conduct literature research in chronic low back pain.
• Complete elements of grant applications.
• Outreach medical consultants and experts in biomedical technology.
• Conduct research to find potential sources of grants for Esurgi.
• Participate in writing up the selected grant proposals.

Minimum Requirements:

• Prior experience in scientific writing, grant writing, proposal writing or project writing in healthcare.
• Pursuing or have a four-year degree in healthcare, biology, biotechnology, kinesiology, physical therapy, or any related field.
• Researching scientific literature skills, e.g., comfortable conducting literature review using Google Scholar, PubMed, and other sources.
• Organizational and time-management skills.
• Self-motivated and detail oriented.
• Ability to work remotely, independently and as part of a collaborative team.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Students who have writing experience in the sciences or have taken an upper-division writing course.
• Knowledge of grants and grant development
• Familiarity with research methodology
• Undergraduate of Graduate studies in Kinesiology, Sports Medicine, Physical Therapy, Biomedical Science or other related fields.

Internship Details:

• Interns will be assigned a mentor with an executive background.
• The intern and mentor will develop an internship plan based on the intern’s educational background, career goals, and realistic projects within Esurgi.
• The plan includes objectives, success factors, and deliverables.
• Regular meetings between the intern and mentor to review progress and plan.
• The internship is intended for students to gain entry-level job experience.
• This internship is Unpaid, is applicable for credit, curricular practical training (CPT) or optional practical training (OPT).
