Job Description: Graduate Teaching Assistant – SEMH/SEN Support
Are you a recent graduate eager to make a significant impact on the lives of children and young people? We are seeking confident and proactive graduates with a strong understanding of child mental health to join our team as Teaching Assistants in various London schools. Both full-time and part-time roles are available.
The Role:
- Working on a 1-to-1 basis with pupils aged 11-16 years old.
- Supporting pupils with identified behavioural, Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, and Special Educational Needs (SEN) including Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
- Providing full-time support in various settings:
- In the classroom
- During specialist mentoring sessions
- During some break times
- Collaborating closely with the school’s SENCO and senior management team.
- Working with outside agencies such as therapists, healthcare professionals, and CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services) as part of the child’s support team.
- Some pupils may display more challenging behaviour; suitable interventions and approaches will be provided through school training.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide dedicated 1-to-1 support to pupils with complex needs.
- Assist pupils in managing their behaviour and emotional regulation.
- Support pupils’ academic learning and engagement within the classroom.
- Facilitate specialist mentoring sessions tailored to individual pupil needs.
- Help foster a positive and inclusive school environment.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of individual support plans.
- Communicate effectively with school staff and external professionals.
Requirements:
To be considered for this vital role, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be a Graduate.
- Possess prior experience in CAMHS / child mental health services.
- Demonstrate a genuine passion for supporting children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
