Graduate Student Research Assistant – Office of Institutional Research

This job offers a unique opportunity for a graduate student to gain valuable professional experience in higher education research. The Graduate Student Research Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting the ULV Office of Institutional Research, contributing to data-informed decision-making and the university’s mission through a variety of analytical, reporting, and research tasks related to institutional effectiveness.

The ideal candidate is a proactive and detail-oriented graduate student with strong analytical skills and a genuine interest in learning more about institutional research and the strategic role of data within higher education.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with data analysis projects to support institutional effectiveness initiatives.
  • Contribute to the generation of various reports, providing insights for data-informed decision-making.
  • Support research tasks related to higher education trends and institutional performance.
  • Query relational databases using SQL to extract and manipulate data.
  • Utilize Microsoft Excel for data organization, analysis, and presentation.
  • Collaborate effectively within a small team environment while also demonstrating the ability to work independently on assigned tasks.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Data Analytics, Computer Science, or a closely related field.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Strong knowledge of SQL.
    • Demonstrable experience with querying relational databases using SQL.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
  • Soft Skills:
    • Strong project management and organizational skills.
    • Ability to work independently.
    • Ability to work collaboratively in a small team environment.
    • Strong initiative and a desire to learn.
    • Attention to detail.
    • Solid analytical skills.

Work Schedule:

This is a part-time position structured to accommodate a graduate student’s academic commitments.

  • Days: Mondays through Fridays
  • Hours: 8am – 5pm (within this window)
  • Maximum Hours: Up to 20 hours per week
