Job Description:
This is a Graduate Pharmacy Intern position with CVS Health, designed to develop future pharmacists. As an intern, you’ll apply your pharmacy education in a real-world setting, preparing you for a Pharmacist role. The role involves a comprehensive training roadmap within 120 days of graduation to deepen your understanding of store, district, and regional operations.
Key Responsibilities:
• Learning and Development: Participate in a comprehensive training program to develop knowledge of store, district, and regional operations.
• Patient Safety and Quality: Deepen your understanding of patient safety, error prevention, quality assurance, and drug utilization review (DUR).
• Pharmacy Operations Support: Assist the pharmacy team to ensure smooth operations, accurate prescription fulfillment, and excellent patient service.
• Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs): Consistently apply SOPs, best practices, and effective communication within the pharmacy team.
• Customer Service and Empathy: Demonstrate empathy and genuine care in all customer and colleague interactions, contributing to a safe and inclusive culture.
• Pharmacy Workflow: Follow pharmacy workflow procedures at each pharmacy workstation (i.e., production, pick-up, drive-thru, and drop-off) for safe and accurate prescription fulfillment.
• Patient Interactions: Create heartfelt and personalized moments while serving patients at pick-up, drive-thru, and over the phone. Offer immunizations and other services at the register and over the phone.
• Patient Care: Offering to counsel, fielding medical questions, and soliciting information on a patient’s medical history to provide optimal care, when appropriate under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
• Prescription Management: Taking telephonic prescriptions from the prescriber, and calling the prescriber to clarify prescriptions or facilitate medication changes, where allowed by state regulation.
• Teamwork and Mentoring: Maintaining the highest level of self-awareness and providing in-the-moment coaching, training, and mentoring to pharmacy team members while sharing best practices.
• Inventory Management: Completing basic inventory activities, as permitted by law, such as accurately putting away medication deliveries and completing cycle counts, returns-to-stocks, waiting bin inventories, etc.
• Continuous Improvement: Contributing to a high-performing team, embracing a growth mindset, and being receptive to feedback; actively seeking opportunities to expand clinical and technical knowledge needed to better assist patients.
• Flexibility: Remaining flexible for both scheduling and business needs, while contributing to a safe, inclusive, and engaging team dynamic; voluntarily traveling to stores in the market to work shifts as needed by the business.
• Compliance: Understanding and complying with all relevant federal, state, and local laws, regulations, professional standards, and ethical principles.
• Additional Healthcare Services: Delivering additional patient health care services (e.g., immunizations, point-of-care testing, and voluntarily staffing offsite clinics), where allowable by law and supported by required training and certification.
• Immunizations (Where Permissible):
• Completing additional licensure and training requirements to obtain Technician Immunizer status to support preparing and administering vaccines.
• Educating patients about vaccines and answering questions to obtain informed consent.
• Monitoring for, and responding to, adverse reactions; reporting adverse reaction events per public health requirements.
• Reviewing and collecting patient information; tracking and documenting for each applicable patient.
Required Qualifications:
• PharmD graduate of a U.S. accredited program prior to beginning the Post-Graduate Training Program at CVS Health.
• Ability to obtain required pharmacist licensure within the required timeframe, per state guidelines. Failure to obtain required Pharmacist licensure within 120 days of graduation will result in separation of employment.
• Must possess, or be in the process of obtaining, valid intern and/or technician licensure as required.

• Physical Demands: Be mobile and remain upright for extended periods of time, lift/scan/bag items, reach overhead, move fingers repetitively, stoop, have close visual acuity.
• Lifting Requirements: Occasionally lift of up to 20 lbs and/or exert up to 20 lbs. of force; Frequently lift of up to 10 lbs and/or exert up to 10 lbs. of force; Consistently lift and/or exert a negligible amount of force to move objects.
• Effective communication in exchanging ideas.
Preferred Qualifications:
• 1+ years of related work experience in pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service setting.
• Ability to become immunization certified.
• Ability to work across the market to meet business needs.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Suite.
