Job Description
This position is a 12-week internship program designed to prepare new Graduate Nurses for a Registered Nurse position on a general care pediatric unit. The orientation comprehensively combines educational sessions with precepted bedside clinical experience.
A commitment of two (2) years with a minimum of 30 hours/week (0.75 FTR) is required for candidates hired through this internship program. Education will be delivered in both group and unit-based settings, while precepted bedside experience will take place on the onboarding unit.
This specific posting is for two Graduate Nurse internship positions within the pediatric Hematology/Oncology unit, with a planned start date in Summer of 2026.
Flexibility will be available, allowing hours to range from 32-40 per week.
Unit Description: 7 East Pediatric Hematology/Oncology
The 7 East unit cares for a diverse patient population, ranging in age from newborn to young adulthood. Diagnoses include a wide spectrum of hematological disorders, such as chronic granulomatous disease and sickle cell anemia, as well as oncological disorders like leukemia, lymphoma, and solid tumors.
7 East also hosts Mott’s Bone Marrow Transplant program, performing 40-50 autologous, cord, allogeneic, and unrelated transplants annually. This is a 32-bed unit, featuring all HEPA-filtered private rooms and some positive pressure rooms, designed to protect our immunocompromised patients.
Expectations of the Position
Requirements of the Commission on Cancer Certification must be met within the triannual certification window, proportionate to hire or transfer to the oncology area. Specific details will be provided by leadership.

Hourly Wage for Registered Nurses:
- Range: $41.78 – $64.81 per hour
Shift Differentials:
- Evening Shift Differential: $3.00 / hour
- Night Shift Differential: $4.00 / hour
- Day Shift Weekend Differential: $2.90 / hour
- Evening Shift Weekend Differential: $5.90 / hour
- Night Shift Weekend Differential: $6.90 / hour
- Charge Nurse Differential: $1.00 / hour

Nursing Specific Information
This UMPNC RN posting is initially listed as Nursing Framework LEVEL C. The actual Nursing Framework Level and salary will be determined at the time of hire. Nursing Framework levels range from Level A to Level F.
Important: Required qualifications must be met by the candidate in order to be interviewed and considered for the position. The posting may be filled after the initial 5-day posting period. Applicants who have left the UMPNC bargaining unit must include on their resume dates of past employment, including months and years of service, along with effort. Required Qualifications
- The candidate must be a Graduate Nurse or newly licensed in the State of Michigan as a Registered Nurse.
- The candidate must not have yet practiced as a Registered Nurse.
- Successful completion of the NCLEX must occur prior to the start date of the nurse internship.
- Applicants must be able to start in Summer of 2026.
- This position requires standing, walking, positioning, pulling, and lifting of heavy patients and objects for long periods of time.

Union Affiliation
This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Michigan Nurses Association (MNA) and the U-M Professional Nurse Council (UMPNC) union. This agreement contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.
