Job Description
• Job Title: Graduate Nurse Internship – Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU 5)
• Program Overview: A 6-month internship program designed to prepare new Graduate Nurses for a Registered Nurse position in the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit 5 (CVICU 5).
• Orientation: Includes a combination of classroom instruction and precepted bedside clinical experience.
• Commitment: Requires a two (2) year commitment with a minimum of 36 hours per week (0.9 FTE) to the CVC5 ICU after completing the 6-month internship program.
• Shift Assignment: The initial 6 months will rotate day and night shifts to meet orientation and learning needs. Shift assignment to night shift upon completion of internship.
• PTO: Scheduled paid time off (PTO) will not be granted during the internship program.
• Start Date: August 2025
Responsibilities:
• Care for patients who have recently undergone cardiac, thoracic, or vascular surgery in a 10-bed adult intensive care unit.
• Specialize in coronary artery bypass, heart and lung transplantation, heart valve repair, ventricular assist devices, esophageal procedures, carotid re-vascularization, and aneurysm repairs.
• Collaborate with the Advanced Practice Team.
• Participate in patient/family conferences, patient care rounds, and referrals.
• Perform Charge nurse responsibilities as assigned.
• Assist in research studies and quality assurance activities.
Required Qualifications:
• Must be a Graduate Nurse or newly licensed in the State of Michigan as a Registered Nurse.
• Must not have yet practiced as a Registered Nurse.
• Successful completion of the NCLEX must occur no later than 45 days from the individual start date, for those hired as a Graduate Nurse.
• Must be able to start the internship in August 2025.
• This position requires standing/walking/positioning/pulling/lifting of heavy patients and objects for long periods of time.
Desired Qualifications:
• BSN preferred.
• Patient Care Tech experience in CVICU.
• Student Nurse experience in CVICU.
• ACLS.
Work Schedule:
• Hours: 36 hours per week (0.9 FTE)
• Shift: Night/Day shift, mainly nights with the possibility of rotating to day shift; 8 & 12-hour shifts and every other weekend.
• Location: CVC5-ICU
• Float: All new employees will be expected to float to a designated unit(s) in times of low census.
