St. Vincent’s Behavioral Health Center in Westport is a 76-bed inpatient psychiatric facility. It specializes in providing care for children, adolescents, and adults dealing with mental health issues and dual diagnosis substance use disorders. Job Summary:
The Graduate Nurse (GN) provides temporary nursing practice while awaiting the results of the licensing examination. This temporary privilege is valid for a period not exceeding 90 calendar days from the date of graduation. The temporary practice privilege automatically ceases upon notification of failing the licensure examination or if the required licensing is still pending after 90 calendar days post-graduation.
The GN is responsible for delivering holistic, quality, and cost-effective nursing care to patients and their families within a specific unit, service, or primary area of practice, considering the entire episode of care. The GN applies the nursing process in alignment with the organization’s Framework for Professional Practice and operates under the direct supervision of a licensed Registered Nurse. The Graduate Nurse reports directly to the Unit Manager.
Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to assigned patient populations, adhering to established protocols and standards.
- Apply the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, evaluation) to ensure effective patient care outcomes.
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary healthcare team to develop and implement individualized care plans.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient care activities.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
- Ensure patient safety and adhere to all infection control and safety policies.
- Participate in educational activities and professional development opportunities.
- Perform duties under the supervision of a licensed Registered Nurse.
Qualifications:
- Education: Graduate of an accredited Nursing program. Minimum Associate degree required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Associate degree hires must commit to obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) within six (6) years of their hire date.
- Licensing: Must have completed the application to sit for the CT RN license examination. Licensing must be obtained within 90 calendar days of the graduation date.
- Skills:
- Demonstrated ability to develop, deliver, and evaluate patient care.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative team.
