Job Description: Graduate-level Research & Development Co-op
This co-op position matches students to projects based on their abilities and current business needs. All projects are strategically and/or operationally important to the business unit. Responsibilities may include:
• Process Improvement: Partnering with leadership to identify and address areas for improved efficiency, benchmarking against industry best practices. Becoming a process owner, critically reviewing processes, and proactively recommending improvements. Learning and promoting continuous improvement methodologies (PPI, Six Sigma, etc.).
• Compliance: Aligning with company safety, training, and quality regulations (ISO compliance, GLP/GMP requirements).
• Research & Development: Executing experimental plans, analyzing data, contributing to technical reports and product summaries. Investigating new methods/technologies and maintaining accurate lab notebooks to protect intellectual property according to Thermo Fisher standards.
• Collaboration: Working collaboratively with other functions (Business Development, Quality, Operations, Technical Services, Marketing) in new product commercialization.
Qualifications:
• Graduate student completing a Master’s degree in Engineering or a Life Sciences-related field.
• 0 years of work experience required; previous internships preferred.
• Demonstrated track record of integrity, innovation, involvement, and intensity.
• Ability to champion change, achieve results, and navigate ambiguity.
• Excellent interpersonal communication skills and high emotional intelligence.
• Legal authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship. F-1, J-1, H-1, OPT, and CPT visas are not accepted for this position.
Compensation & Relocation:
The hourly rate is $29.00 – $38.50, depending on location (aligned with cost-of-living guidelines). A $5,000 relocation stipend is offered if the student lives 50+ miles from the co-op location.
