Graduate Assistant – Football

Lakeland University, an independent liberal arts institution located in Plymouth, Wisconsin, is seeking to hire a Graduate Assistant for our Football team to start in Fall 2026.

Position Summary

The Football Graduate Assistant will play a vital role in supporting the Head Coach in various aspects of the football program. This includes promoting the program, recruiting quality student-athletes, organizing and running practices, providing competition coaching, assisting with fundraising and promotional activities, and fulfilling other related assigned responsibilities.

Essential Functions

  • Serve as a positive role model to student-athletes both on and off the football field.
  • Exhibit strong leadership qualities and actively strive to develop these capabilities within our student-athletes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and assist student-athletes with their academic success, promoting a balance between athletics and academics.
  • Effectively recruit quality student-athletes who align with the university’s values and program goals.
  • Assist the Head Coach with any and all aspects of the football program, demonstrating initiative and adaptability.
  • Contribute to the organization and execution of practices, ensuring productive and effective training sessions.
  • Provide coaching during competitions, offering guidance and strategic input to student-athletes.
  • Participate in fundraising efforts and promotional activities to support the growth and visibility of the football program.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree is required.
  • Enrollment: Acceptance into a Lakeland University graduate school program is required.
  • Experience: Football experience and/or coaching experience is required.
  • Driving: Must possess an acceptable driving record.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • NCAA Regulations: Demonstrated knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations governing recruitment, eligibility, and related functions is required.
  • Confidentiality: Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality in all matters pertaining to student-athletes and program operations.
  • Time Management: Ability to effectively manage time and prioritize tasks in a dynamic environment.
  • Workflow Management: Ability to prioritize office workflow and make effective administrative decisions to increase efficiency, accuracy, and productivity.
  • Communication: Demonstrated ability to tactfully and effectively communicate (written and verbal) with a variety of individuals, including student-athletes, staff, faculty, and recruits.
  • Critical Thinking: Strong critical thinking skills for problem-solving and decision-making.
  • Organization: Demonstrates organizational ability, meticulous attention to detail, and accuracy in all responsibilities.
  • Teamwork & Independence: Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Flexibility: Ability to work evenings or weekends as needed, recognizing the demands of an athletic program.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • This position involves moderate to strenuous physical activity, including the ability to run at a reasonable pace.
  • The work environment may involve some exposure to hazards or physical risks, requiring adherence to basic safety precautions.
