Internship Program Overview

CareFirst’s Government Programs Marketing and Communications department is accepting applications for its Summer 2026 internship program. You will join a small team of driven, optimistic individuals dedicated to improving healthcare for members and the world at large. We are actively transforming the way healthcare is delivered, supported, and experienced today.

  • This internship is designed as a 10-12 week full-time opportunity, beginning in late May/early June and concluding in August 2026.
  • The internship can potentially expand into a year-round opportunity for the right candidate.
  • This program is ideal for a rising Junior or Senior undergraduate student seeking experience and exposure to diverse careers in healthcare.
  • You will work specifically with the Government Programs Marketing & Communications team, responsible for collateral and digital communications for Medicare Advantage and Medicare Supplemental products.
  • The projects you will be supporting are both collateral and digital (website, email, and Relay mobile engagement) for member communications, outreach materials, provider communications, and targeted campaigns.

Key Responsibilities

The intern will focus on strategy and communications responsibilities, including:

  • Supporting member, prospect, and sales communications projects for the upcoming plan year.
  • Supporting digital communications, including website updates, mobile engagement campaigns, and email creation.
  • Creating PowerPoint presentations and standard operating procedure (SOP) documentation.
  • Developing and executing communications to internal and external project stakeholders.
  • Attending meetings, recording outcomes for key action items, and managing follow-ups.
  • Identifying proactive opportunities for deploying creative communications strategies.
  • Maintaining internal and external stakeholder information repositories (i.e., SharePoint, Salesforce Communities).

Education Level

  • Undergraduate Track: Rising Junior or Senior undergraduate student.
  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, or another Business-related field.
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above.

Required Abilities/Skills

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to write for different audiences.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Project management experience.

Preferred (But Not Required) Experience

  • Microsoft SharePoint
  • Power BI
  • Adobe suite
  • Salesforce Marketing Cloud

Important Notes

  • Department: Marketing, Communications and Product Development
  • Compensation: All intern positions will be paid hourly. The posted hire range is an annual rate.
  • Work Authorization: Must be eligible to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
  • Federal Compliance: The incumbent is required to immediately disclose any debarment, exclusion, or other event that makes him/her ineligible to perform work directly or indirectly on Federal health care programs.
  • Physical Demands: The associate is primarily seated while performing duties. Occasional walking or standing is required. Hands are regularly used for writing, typing, keying, and handling small controls/objects. Frequent talking and hearing are required. Weights up to 25 pounds are occasionally lifted.
