China Export Compliance Program Manager | Apple
The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Apple, located in-person in Shanghai, China. Apple is a company renowned for creating innovative products, services, and customer experiences that invent entire categories and industries. This position within the Legal group is critical to upholding Apple’s high ethical and corporate standards, ensuring compliance with worldwide export laws, and enabling the successful launch of new products. The role specifically focuses on navigating complex and often unexplored aspects of export and sanctions compliance related to China.

• Team: Global Export & Sanctions Compliance (GESC) team within the Legal group
• Mission: Ensure compliance with worldwide laws governing the export of technology and products, developing creative solutions to complex compliance challenges particularly impacting Apple’s China operations and supply chain.
What You’ll Actually Do
• Monitor and manage compliance: Ensure adherence to PRC export regulations and countermeasure regimes, including ECL, AFSL, and Unreliable Entity List, alongside U.S. EAR and other applicable foreign trade regulations.
• Support licensing and controls: Manage and support export, re-export, and deemed export controls, as well as license applications for transactions or activities involving China or Chinese personnel.
• Advise on technology handling: Provide guidance to engineering, supply chain, and R&D teams regarding controlled technology handling for advanced and emerging technologies.
• Conduct risk assessments: Support restricted/denied party screening and perform sanctions/countermeasure risk assessments for China-based transactions and partners.
• Collaborate on mitigation: Work with the broader GESC team on regulatory analysis, due diligence, and risk mitigation strategies involving Chinese entities or individuals.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in law, engineering, international business, international trade, or a related degree, or equivalent work experience, focused on export compliance.
• Experience: 5+ years of export compliance experience, including managing compliance programs for China export control and countermeasure regimes, and experience with restricted/denied party screening and reviews.
• Skills: Excellent project management and documentation skills, strong analytical capability with attention to detail, clear written and verbal communications, and the ability to build relationships and partner at all organizational levels.
• Bonus: Knowledge in material engineering and computer science, experience in or ability to quickly learn new areas of regulation and technology, strong work ethic and collaboration skills within an international team, and familiarity with international regulations.
