About the Job:
VHB is seeking a Geomatics Summer Intern to join its collaborative team in their Virginia Beach, VA office. The intern will provide support to the Geomatics team in the collection of field data and information related to the preparation of survey maps and CAD files. This role offers the opportunity to gain exposure to various progressive technologies, working directly with an experienced geomatics team and interacting with technical specialists in other disciplines.
Responsibilities:
• Support the field crew in collecting hydrographic and topographic data.
• Gain exposure to conventional survey methods.
• Gain exposure to single beam and multibeam hydrographic survey technologies and HYPACK software.
• Support the crew in performing crane rail surveys.
• Perform construction layout.
• Assist with office tasks including CAD drafting, data download, deed and map research, and filing.
• Maintain survey equipment and initiate repairs when necessary.
• Remain current on surveying practices, guidelines, and best practices; attend internal training to expand knowledge and skills.
• Perform other duties as requested.
Skills and Attributes:
• Excellent communication skills, written and verbal.
• Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical and judgment capabilities.
• Ability to effectively work independently and in a team environment.
Qualifications:
• Must have a high school diploma.
• Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program is preferred (Geomatics, Civil Engineering, Construction Management or related field).
• 0+ years of prior progressive land surveying experience.
