About Walt Disney Animation Studios:
Walt Disney Animation Studios is deeply committed to the philosophy that creativity inspires technology, and technology inspires creativity. Their Technical Directors (TDs) play a crucial role in supporting artist teams across various aspects of the CG animation process. This includes developing tools to streamline animation, acting as a liaison between artists and software/system engineers, and providing direct support to artists. TDs are integral to their respective artist departments, designing and optimizing processes and tools to meet production demands.
Job Description: General TD Intern, Disney Animation – Summer 2025
This 12-week internship (May-August 2025) in Burbank, CA, offers an immersive experience into the world of animation. Interns will gain hands-on experience and mentorship from artists, technologists, and production leaders. The program includes educational seminars on animation craft and filmmaking, along with individual and group projects. The internship focuses on providing emerging talent with a comprehensive understanding of the animation process.
Key Responsibilities and Skills:
The internship requires a strong understanding of the production pipelines in CG animation, VFX, or video game production. This includes knowledge of various production phases, from modeling, rigging, and animation to layout, look development, and lighting/rendering. Strong problem-solving skills are essential, as is the ability to collaborate effectively with various departments.
Specific technical skills include:
• Scripting: Experience with Python, C++, and MEL is required.
• Software Proficiency: Familiarity with commercial graphics packages such as Maya, Houdini, and Global Illumination Lighting packages is necessary.
• Operating Systems: Understanding of Linux or Unix operating systems is required.
• Stereoscopic Knowledge: Understanding of stereoscopic concepts and production processes is a plus.
Eligibility Requirements:
• At least 18 years old
• Currently enrolled in a post-high school educational program (Community College, College, University, Trade School, Online School, or equivalent) and planning to return to the program for at least one semester after the internship.
• Full availability for the duration of the 12-week internship (May-August 2025).
Compensation:
