General Manager, Data Centers | Instawork

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Instawork, based in Chicago, IL, with extensive travel required to major data center markets. Instawork operates an AI-powered labor marketplace that connects over 10 million skilled hourly professionals with businesses across various sectors, including local companies and global technology giants. This role is critical for accelerating and scaling the company’s rapidly growing presence within the data center industry, driving strategy, capturing market share, and optimizing execution in one of the world’s fastest-growing sectors.

• Pay: $160000–$200000 yearly
• Mission: Scale the connection between flexible workers and the continuous labor demands of the data center industry to accelerate marketplace growth.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Scale Operations: Drive operational excellence to expand the data center vertical, streamlining protocols, standardizing onboarding, and growing market footprint until it becomes a self-sustaining engine.
• Execute Strategy: Refine and implement Instawork’s growth strategy for the data center space, cultivating relationships with general contractors, operators, and tech giants to turn pilots into enterprise deployments.
• Analyze Needs: Deeply understand the unique labor, compliance, and safety requirements of data center environments, leveraging data to anticipate partner pain points and support fluctuating workforce needs.
• Lead Cross-Functionally: Collaborate with Sales, Marketing, Product, and Operations to convert operational friction into scalable, automated processes and unblock growth.
• Evangelize: Represent Instawork externally as a thought leader in the data center workforce, presenting progress and strategic recommendations to executive leadership to shape long-term vision.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Senior Individual Contributor or Director-level professional with 4+ years of experience in commercial construction (specifically mission-critical or data center builds), data center operations, infrastructure scaling, or management consulting within the tech/infrastructure space.
• Experience: Proven track record of managing high-growth expansion, optimizing complex operations, and achieving sustainable market dominance, with a deep understanding of the full data center lifecycle.
• Skills: Domain expertise in data center construction and operations, strategic planning, operational excellence, cross-functional collaboration, and data-driven problem-solving for complex enterprise requirements.
