Job Description, Detailed

This is a fantastic opportunity for a General Internal Medicine specialist to join the team at Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital (KBRH) in Trail.

Role and Responsibilities:

• Role Title: General Internal Medicine specialist.
• Team Structure: Join an existing group of 6 local internists.
• Scope of Practice: The ideal candidate will be a true general internist with comfort and skill in both inpatient and outpatient internal medicine. The team can likely accommodate a variety of skills and competencies.
• Key Services/Duties of the Internal Medicine Group:
• Provide 24/7 IM call coverage (separate from ICU coverage).
• Conduct cardiac risk stratification with Exercise Stress Tests (ESTs) and Myocardial Perfusion Imaging (MIBIs).
• Offer urgent IM access through the Rapid Access IM Clinic, located within the hospital.
• Perform separate outpatient office work.
• On-call duties generally involve daytime hours.
• Include inpatient consults at KBRH.
• Provide phone support for surrounding communities.
• Operate primarily as a consulting service, with minimal Most Responsible Physician (MRP) duties, supported by a robust and skilled hospitalist service.
• On-call Requirements: Approximately 1:4 to 1:5 frequency.
• Critical Care: Critical care services are covered separately and are not part of this position.
• Teaching Obligations: An expectation of the position due to the hospital’s association with UBC (hosting ICC medical students, family practice residents, and visiting UBC IM Fellows).
• Candidate Profile: The team is excited to add passionate and hardworking new graduates or experienced candidates.
• Pre-requisite for Offer: A locum or elective at the site is required prior to a job offer, to ensure a good fit for both the candidate and the team.

Compensation and Benefits:

• Compensation Type: Fee-for-Service.
• Estimated Remuneration: Between $300,000 and $400,000 annually, plus MOCAP level 1 and cardio-diagnostics.
• Potential Additional Remuneration (in accordance with the Rural Subsidiary Agreement (RSA)):
• Retention Premium: 11.48%.
• Retention Flat Fee: $17,791.
• Relocation Funding: Available, ranging from $9,000 to $15,000 based on the move location.
• Recruitment Incentive: $15,000.
• Rural CME (Continuing Medical Education):
• Up to 2 years: $600.
• In 3rd & 4th year: $3,600.
• After 4 years: $6,600.
