Job Description (Detailed)

This opportunity is for a General Finance Internship at American Express, based in New York, NY.

Business Unit/Role Specific Info:
The internship offers exposure to various functional areas within the Finance division, providing a broad understanding of the company’s financial operations. Interns may have the opportunity to work in one of the following areas:
• Corporate Planning & Analysis
• Global Commercial Services Finance
• US Consumer Services Finance
• Global Merchant and Network Finance
• Controllership
• Global Treasury

How you will make an impact in this role:
All interns are assigned a project that addresses a real business challenge within the organization. The project responsibilities include:
• Providing best-in-class analysis and decision support to the Finance organization.
• Learning to clearly articulate decisions and gain consensus from stakeholders across the business.
• Gathering and analyzing information from a wide range of sources, identifying trends, and explaining their impact on the business.
• Developing a comprehensive understanding of the business and its needs.
• Honing analytical acumen, communication skills, and the ability to adapt complex messages for different audiences.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Currently enrolled in a full-time bachelor’s degree program.
• Expected graduation date between December 2026 and June 2027.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Ability to analyze and manipulate large datasets, identify trends, generate meaningful insights, and develop recommendations to drive growth.
• Strategic thought leadership and creativity in synthesizing data into an easy-to-understand narrative, articulating key messages across multiple audiences.
• A strong work ethic, positive attitude, highly motivated self-starter with robust interpersonal skills, adaptability to change, and the ability to build trust-based relationships within the Finance team and with business partners across various locations/geographies.
• Acting and leading with courage, making decisions quickly, and initiating and driving change management processes.
• Programming skills are considered a plus.

Qualifications:
Salary Range: The expected hourly salary range for this position is $24.05 to $63.00. The final pay will be determined by factors such as location, experience, and other job-related elements.
Employment Eligibility: Employment eligibility to work with American Express in the U.S. is required. The company will not pursue visa sponsorship for these positions.
