Job Title: General Crew Member

Position Summary

The General Crew Member role is designed for individuals with skill and experience levels that surpass a general laborer, but are positioned just below that of a lead carpenter or foreman. This vital team member will be proficient in utilizing a range of tools and equipment, including drawings, templates, various hand tools, power tools, and heavy equipment to successfully complete daily construction tasks.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Possess a comprehensive knowledge of construction and remodeling trades, including practices, procedures, techniques, tools and equipment, materials, specifications, quality control, cost control, and safety protocols.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in advanced carpentry tasks such as:
    • Executing stain-grade trim work.
    • Accurately hanging doors.
    • Precise drilling and setting of door hardware.
    • Expertly setting windows.
    • Performing layout for stairs and common rafters, utilizing appropriate math skills.
  • Ability to read blueprints effectively.
  • Maintain effective communication with on-site foremen regarding carpentry progress and safety matters; proactively update the foreman of any foreseeable issues or challenges.
  • Adhere to and rigorously enforce all safety standards as outlined in the company’s Safety & Health Manual.
  • Actively participate in and promote a strong safety culture across all projects.
  • Maintain an organized and clean job site throughout the entire project lifecycle.
  • Ensure all necessary job-related certifications are current and maintained.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support project completion and team objectives.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required

  • Team Collaboration: Demonstrated ability to work effectively and cooperatively in a team environment.
  • Communication Skills: Possess effective verbal communication skills.
  • Organizational Acumen: Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities efficiently.
  • Hands-On Proficiency: Proven ability to work with hands-on tools and excel in production and construction-related situations, following instructions given both orally and in writing.
  • Independence & Accuracy: Capability to work independently, maintain high levels of accuracy, and consistently adhere to company safety and quality standards.
  • Language Skills: Ability to communicate clearly in English with other employees for the purpose of hazard recognition, problem-solving, or other work-related communications.
  • Work Flexibility: Ability to work up to 12 hours a day when necessary and as determined by management to meet project demands.
  • Experience: While experience in the construction and carpentry trade is preferred, it is not strictly required for this position.
