Job Description
This is a 9-month, full-time, on-site Computational Biology Internship within the gRED Computational Sciences (gCS) department at Genentech, based in South San Francisco. The internship starts in September 2025.
As an intern, you will join a team focused on single-cell, spatial, and imaging data analysis to study aging biology and related processes. This is a paid internship.
Key Responsibilities:
• Analyze scRNA-seq datasets to uncover cellular and tissue-level signatures of aging.
• Develop and optimize pipelines for data integration and visualization.
• Participate in seminars and cross-functional meetings.
• Work alongside leading computational biologists and data scientists.
Required Qualifications:
• Meet one of the following education criteria:
• Bachelor’s degree (recent graduates not currently enrolled in a grad program)
• Pursuing a Master’s degree (enrolled student)
• Master’s degree attained no more than 2 years ago
• Pursuing a PhD
• PhD attained no more than 2 years ago
• Required Majors: Bioinformatics, Data Analysis, Computational Biology, AI/ML Engineering, or related fields.
• Required Skills:
• Computational analysis of single-cell genomic data (clustering, marker identification, trajectory inference, neighborhood-based analysis).
• Proficiency in R and/or Python.
• Basic understanding of cell biology and gene expression.
• Experience with AI/ML methods applied to biological data.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications:
• Experience with spatial data analysis and imaging pipelines.
• Experience with atlas building from biological data.
• Exposure to machine-learning frameworks (e.g., PyTorch).
• Interest or background in aging biology.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
