Refactor Games is an indie game development studio based in Santa Monica, California. We specialize in creating experimental, emergent video games that push the boundaries of gaming by incorporating cutting-edge technologies like Virtual Reality, Cryptocurrency, and Artificial Intelligence.

Summer 2024 Internship Program

We are searching for a passionate and talented student or recent graduate to join our Summer 2024 internship program. The program runs from July 8th to October 25th and offers an exciting opportunity to work alongside industry veterans and contribute to the development of innovative video games and interactive experiences.

Ideal Candidate

We are looking for a game developer who shares our passion for sports, fantasy, and space video games, as well as our enthusiasm for emerging technologies like VR, AR, and blockchain gaming. You are a highly motivated individual eager to learn and contribute to the creation of cutting-edge game experiences.

Internship Tracks

Choose one of the following tracks based on your interests and expertise:

1. Game Engineering: Develop core game mechanics, systems, and features.
2. Full-Stack Engineering: Combine front-end and back-end development for comprehensive game functionalities.
3. Game Design & Writing: Craft compelling narratives, level designs, and gameplay experiences.
4. Audio / Sound Design: Create immersive audio environments and sound effects that enhance the game experience.
5. UI/UX Design: Design intuitive and user-friendly interfaces that guide players through the game.
6. 3D Art: Create stunning visuals, environments, and characters that bring the game world to life.
7. 3D Animation: Animate characters, objects, and environments to bring dynamism and personality to the game.
8. Game Production & Operations: Manage game development processes, timelines, and resource allocation.
9. Business Development: Explore partnerships, licensing opportunities, and strategic collaborations for the game.
10. Marketing & Social Media: Develop marketing strategies, content, and social media campaigns to promote the game.
11. Quality Assurance & Testing: Ensure the game’s quality, stability, and performance through rigorous testing.

Responsibilities

– Implement functionality and features: Contribute to the development of game features and systems based on your chosen track.
– Manage project support initiatives: Support production, marketing, and design teams by implementing project tasks and assisting with project management.
– Contribute innovative and original ideas: Share your creative vision and contribute to the development of new ideas and concepts for the game.

Requirements

– Demonstrated proficiency in relevant tools and technologies: Showcase your skills and knowledge in the latest tools and technologies specific to your chosen track.
– Minimum 1 year of professional or academic experience: Have at least one completed video game project in your portfolio to demonstrate your experience.
– Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in a related field: Currently pursuing or have recently obtained a bachelor’s degree (or higher) in a relevant field like game development, computer science, design, or audio engineering.
– Passion for video game development: Show a genuine enthusiasm and commitment to the video game industry.

Compensation

– College credit: We will work with your educational institution to provide college credit for your internship experience if applicable.
– Full-time position consideration: If you impress us during your internship and have graduated, we will strongly consider you for a full-time position at Refactor Games.
– Portfolio showcase: You will be able to use your work on our game projects in your public portfolio.
