Job Description
This is a Gallery Internship Opportunity at Lisson Gallery located in Los Angeles, CA.
• Duration & Schedule: The internship runs from July 2025 to December 2025, requiring a commitment of 4 days a week.
• Compensation: Interns will be compensated at a rate of $16.50/hour.
• Primary Aim & Overview: The core purpose of this internship is to provide a vital professional front-of-house experience for all gallery visitors and to offer a range of administrative support across the gallery’s operations. It is designed to expose the intern to the daily working life of the Sales team and the Gallery’s sales practices, making it an excellent learning opportunity for individuals interested in a commercial gallery setting.
• Key Front of House Tasks:
• Acting as the primary point of contact and “front of house” for Lisson Gallery clients and visitors.
• Efficiently and courteously answering phone calls and providing a high-quality message service.
• Ensuring that reception and gallery areas are consistently presentable and informative, especially in advance of Private Views, and promptly notifying staff of any issues.
• Tracking and accurately recording visitor numbers.
• Ensuring press releases and exhibition lists are readily available for visitors.
• Organizing courier services, FedEx shipments, and taxis as required.
• Updating the gallery’s mailing list using information gathered from reception and exhibition books.
• Providing general ad hoc project support as needed.
• Providing reception cover during gallery Private Views.
• Offering support for and attending other gallery events as required.
• Documentation Services & Gallery Bookshop Responsibilities:
• Managing catalogue inventory by ordering to ensure appropriate stock levels, including for upcoming gallery exhibitions.
• Ensuring the gallery is well-stocked with relevant sales catalogues and publications.
• Introducing and monitoring the allocation of complimentary catalogues.
• Working on a dedicated project focused on optimizing the use of the catalogue archive and stored catalogues.
• Key Skills/Attributes Required:
• A strong passion for and in-depth knowledge of contemporary art.
• Articulate communication skills and a professional, well-presented demeanor.
• A positive, proactive, and “can-do” attitude.
• Excellent inter-personal skills, balanced with professionalism and diplomacy.
• Good understanding of the contemporary art market.
• Highly organized and efficient with tasks.
• Exceptional attention to detail.
• A calm and friendly manner, particularly when operating under pressure.
• High level of IT proficiency, including Microsoft Office, a working knowledge of art Database(s), and Mac literacy.
