Job Description: Furnace Operator

Position Summary:

Based in Indianapolis, Indiana, the Furnace Operator position performs essential job functions associated with heat treatment under the direction of the Production Manager to meet customer specifications, including assisting other employees as needed. This position is considered safety-sensitive due to the nature of the business and the heavy industrial market.

Available Levels:

Level C (Entry Level): 0 to 24 months of heat-treating experience. Assists with operations, control, and monitoring of heat treating and related equipment as required and written in procedures on shop traveler and/or customer paperwork.
Level B (Mid-Level): 2 to 3 years of experience in heat treatment. Operates, controls, and monitors heat treating equipment as required and written in procedures on shop traveler and/or customer paperwork.
Level A (Senior-Level): 3 to 5 years of experience with a deep understanding of heat treating. Independently operates, controls, and monitors heat treating equipment as required and written in procedures on shop traveler and/or customer paperwork.

Essential Job Functions (Duties and Responsibilities):

• Prepares work for processing; loads and unloads furnaces, bins, fixtures, baskets, etc.
• Bring any unusual problems or irregularities to the attention of the supervisor.
• Practices and promotes safety and good housekeeping.
• Performs other tasks as assigned or dictated by position.
• Responsible for the care and treatment of customer’s inventory and, as such, will perform duties safely and responsibly to prevent customer loss or damage.
• Must have the ability to report for work on time, follow directions, interact effectively with co-workers, understand and follow rules and procedures, and accept constructive criticism.

Qualifications:

• Must satisfy ITAR compliance requirements; therefore, candidates must be U.S. Citizens or Permanent Resident Card Holders.
• Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must have working knowledge of metallurgy, temperatures, etc.
• May be required to work overtime or any shift, including weekends.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain forklift operation certification.
• Must demonstrate the ability to read, write, and communicate in English.

Physical & Mental Demands:

• Must be able to work in a standing position for extended periods in an industrial environment.
• Ability to bend, pull, stoop, and reach to perform functions.
• Ability to lift up to 35 lbs.
• May be exposed to heat, fumes, noise, humidity, etc.
• Must have the cognitive and mental capacity to perform essential job functions.
• Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
• Visual acuity to read documents, computer screens, files, etc.
• Ability to hear in person and via phone.
