Job Description: Full Time Built Ecology Intern – Summer 2025
WSP’s Built Ecology team is seeking a full-time intern for Summer 2025, based in Seattle, WA, with possible locations in Boston, Chicago, Denver, and New York City. This 12-week internship (starting May 19th, 2025, with flexible start date) is part of WSP’s Summer Internship Program, which includes mentorship and networking opportunities.
Built Ecology is WSP’s national Built Environment Sustainability team, offering services in sustainability consulting, high-performance design and analysis, building certifications (LEED, Living Building Challenge, WELL, etc.), district-scale solutions, education, facilitation, and project management. Their work spans various project types and scales, from urban planning to building construction and ongoing operations.
Responsibilities:
The intern will support a variety of engineering tasks, developing technical, social, and ethical skills. Specific duties include:
• Supporting project research, field work, and preliminary design calculations and analysis.
• Assisting with final design plans, special provisions, and cost estimates.
• Maintaining project documentation.
• Managing tasks under the supervision of project managers.
• Supporting sustainability strategy development and certification efforts.
• Assisting with renewable energy analysis and carbon-neutral building assessments.
• Developing strategic and technical recommendations for projects.
• Facilitating stakeholder conversations to create sustainability strategies.
• Producing high-quality presentations and deliverables.
• Applying and developing technical skills in a professional setting.
• Gaining experience in analysis methods, reporting, and presentations related to sustainability.
• Learning computational design and advanced building analytics tools.
• Completing assigned training.
• Adhering to WSP’s Code of Conduct and policies.
• Performing additional responsibilities as needed.
Qualifications:
Required:
• Active enrollment in an accredited Green Building Design, Engineering, Sustainability Management, Built Ecology, or related Undergraduate, Master’s, or PhD program (graduation by August 2025).
• Age 18 or older.
• Demonstrated interest in green building and sustainability.
• Strong presentation skills.
• Self-leadership, attention to detail, multitasking abilities.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Proficiency in MS Office Suite and technical writing.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Pursuit of a degree in a relevant field.
• Basic proficiency with technical software and tools.
• Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to WSP policies.
• Authorization to work in the United States.
Preferred:
• Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite.
• 3D modeling skills.
• Scripting and coding experience (Python or Grasshopper).
• Knowledge of building design and construction.
• Familiarity with green building rating systems (LEED, Passive House, LBC, WELL, Fitwel).
• Experience with energy modeling software.
• Advanced Excel and data analysis skills.
Compensation:
The expected salary range is $19.13 – $30.00 per hour (all locations). Note that this is a Colorado-specific range and may vary in other states. There is no relocation or housing assistance provided.
